Angie Smith, a Pro Stock NHRA motorcycle racer, was injured in a high-speed crash during the second round of Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifying at the Midwest Nationals on September 30, 2023. She lost control of her motorcycle after crossing the finish line and was separated from the bike before coming to a rest. The accident occurred in the shutdown area and was not visible to the crowd or announcers in the control tower. Smith was transported to a local medical facility near World Wide Technology Raceway in the St. Louis suburb of Madison, Ill., after the accident. She suffered two broken feet and extensive road rash as a result of her crash and is facing skin-graft surgery as she recovers. Smiths husband, Matt Smith, and several other racers opted out of the qualifying rounds to be with her at the hospital.
