Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII, was executed on 19 May 1536 at the Tower of London for treason and other charges
. The circumstances of her execution made her a key figure in the political and religious upheaval of the time
. Some of the reasons for her execution include:
- Failure to produce a male heir : Anne failed to give Henry VIII a son, which may have contributed to her downfall
- Loss of favor with the king : Anne's family began to lose favor with the king, and people who had the king's ear spread lies that put Anne and her family in a bad light
- Charges of adultery and undermining the king's dignity : Anne was found guilty of treason rather than adultery, although undermining the king's dignity was part of the convincing accusation against her
Anne Boleyn's death was the result of a combination of unfortunate events and the political climate of the time. She was beheaded within the confines of the Tower of London, and her head and body were placed in a chest and buried in the chancel near to the remains of her Lord Rochford
