Anthony Davis, the Dallas Mavericks star, underwent surgery in July 2025 to repair a detached retina in his right eye. The injury stemmed from multiple hits to the face during the 2024-25 NBA season, including a notable incident where teammate Daniel Gafford accidentally elbowed him in the eye during a game in April 2025. Although Davis was able to continue playing at the time after receiving stitches, it was later determined during a routine summer check-up that he needed surgery. Following the surgery, Davis must now wear protective goggles for the remainder of his NBA career as mandated by his doctor. He has reported that his vision is good and he has no restrictions entering training camp, aside from the protective eyewear. The goggles will help protect his eyes from further injury, and Davis has accepted this as a necessary change for his long-term health and career longevity. He has recovered well and is expected to be fully ready for the upcoming season with the Mavericks.
