Bob Woodruff is an American television journalist who was severely injured by an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion during a reporting trip to Iraq in 2006. At the time of the attack, he was co-anchor of ABCs "World News Tonight" and was sent to Iraq to report on its progress. The explosion caused a traumatic brain injury that impacted his language skills, and he struggled with expressive aphasia for more than a year after the injury. Woodruff slowly recovered over an extended period before returning to air. He still works as a journalist for ABC and other Disney properties. In November 2023, Woodruff returned to the Iraqi roadside where the bomb nearly killed him while on assignment for ABC News in 2006. He brought his son Mack, now a cameraman, who was just 14 years old at the time of the attack. The trip was documented in a special called "After the Blast: The Will to Survive," which aired on ABC.
