Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry died in December 2009 after falling from the back of a moving pickup truck during a domestic dispute with his fiancée in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Circumstances of his death
Police reported that Henry, who was 26 years old, was injured when he fell out of the bed of a pickup truck being driven by his fiancée on a residential road near Charlotte. He was taken to the hospital with severe injuries and died the following day.
Later medical findings
An autopsy later showed that Henry had developed chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease associated with repeated head impacts in football. His case was notable because he was the first known active NFL player diagnosed with CTE after death.
