The Indianapolis Colts’ starting quarterback, Daniel Jones, recently suffered a serious right Achilles injury and is expected to miss the rest of the 2025 season. The injury occurred on a non-contact play in the first quarter of a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he was quickly ruled out and later diagnosed with a torn Achilles.
What happened
Jones went down after dropping back to pass, fell awkwardly on the wet turf, and immediately grabbed the back of his right lower leg, indicating an Achilles issue. This came while he had already been playing through a fractured left fibula, making the new injury an even bigger setback.
Current status and impact
Reports indicate Jones will undergo surgery for the torn Achilles, which would end his season and require a lengthy rehab. With Jones out and Anthony Richardson also sidelined, the Colts have turned to rookie Riley Leonard as their primary quarterback going forward.
