Sanders had already had two toes amputated and had no feeling in the bottom of his foot due to circulation issues. An ultrasound revealed that previously opened arteries had closed, according to his medical team. Sanders had two clots in his legs, one in his right leg and one in his left leg, which is his thigh. He had a procedure to try and get those clots so he could have proper blood flow through the leg so they could fix the toes. Sanders clarified that his doctors were performing surgery that would keep his foot intact.
