The Force India Formula One team was owned by Vijay Mallya and was the only Indian team to ever be on the grid. The team was created in 2007 when Mallya and a Dutch businessman named Michel Mol bought out Spyker F1 to give birth to Force India. Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil were the first to drive for the team. The first season ended with no points for the team, but they had better luck in the future seasons of the sport. After their initial season with Ferrari engines, they switched to Mercedes and ended the 2009 season with 13 points. In 2012, an Indian company, Sahara India Pariwar, bought shares of Force India, and the team was then called Sahara Force India. They became iconic in the midfield, especially after signing Sergio Perez, who was able to pull off some grand finishes for them. They finished P4 in the standings twice, consecutively, in 2016 and 2017.
However, with Vijay Mallya facing financial and legal troubles, the Force India F1 team was put into administration during the 2018 season in August. Force Indias assets were purchased by Racing Point UK, a company created by a group of investors led by Lawrence Stroll. The new company created a new constructor with the assets and entered the sport prior to the 2018 Belgian Grand Prix, taking the vacated entry of the original Force India team. The FIA excluded the former Force India entry from the championship "due to its inability to complete the season", and welcomed the new entity (Racing Point) . Racing Point rebranded itself as Aston Martin in 2020.
In summary, the original Force India team was put into administration in 2018 due to financial and legal troubles faced by Vijay Mallya, and its assets were purchased by Racing Point UK, which now races under the name Aston Martin.
