Gemma Ward is an Australian model and actress who was first scouted at the age of 14 and made her Australian Fashion Week debut at 15. She became one of the youngest models to appear on the cover of the American edition of Vogue and was subsequently featured on the covers of both Teen Vogue and Time. She was widely considered to be a supermodel.
Ward left the modeling industry in 2008 after the death of her then-boyfriend, Heath Ledger, and the subsequent body-shaming she experienced after being photographed on a beach in Australia. She sought treatment for her eating disorder and took time to heal. She became a mother during her time away from the industry.
Ward made a comeback to the industry in 2014 when she walked on Pradas runway. In a 2018 interview with W magazine, she opened up about her struggles and how she overcame them. She said that she always wanted to get to a place where she could talk about her experiences because it would mean that she was no longer in it. In a 2023 interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, she said that she doesnt feel very famous now, which is a good place for her.
