He was considered at an increased risk for coronavirus due to his age and history with cancer. Cain was born on December 13, 1945, in Memphis, Tennessee, and grew up in Georgia. He graduated from Morehouse College with a bachelors degree in mathematics and earned a masters degree in computer science at Purdue University while working full-time for the U.S. Department of the Navy. Cain joined the Pillsbury Company in 1977 and later became vice president.
