Jon Gruden resigned as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders in October 2021 after emails he sent containing racist, misogynistic, and homophobic language were revealed. He has since filed a lawsuit against the NFL, alleging that he was singled out for blame over the incident and that the NFL had been in possession of the emails since June 2021 after an investigation into workplace conditions at Washington’s football team. Gruden has spoken publicly about the leaked emails, saying that he is ashamed of what has come about in these emails and that he will make no excuses for it. He has also expressed a desire for another shot at the NFL, saying that he is a good person and that he just asks for forgiveness. In May 2022, a Nevada judge ruled in favor of Gruden, opening up the possibility of a jury trial. In July 2023, it was reported that Gruden intends "to burn the [NFLs] house down" with his lawsuit against the league.
