what happened to kuina in one piece

Kuina is a character in the anime and manga series One Piece. She was a childhood friend of Roronoa Zoro and the daughter of a swordmaster. The cause of Kuinas death is simply stated to be an accident. During Zoro's childhood flashback, Kuina's father tells Zoro that she died from falling down the stairs. Koushiro, the sensei of Zoro and Kuina, lets Zoro know that Kuina died in an unspecified accident. She passed away at the age of 11. Zoro receives Kuina's sword, Wado Ichimonji, during her funeral. The death of Kuina gives Zoro the push to become a renowned swordsman, and his signature Three Sword Style comes as a result of Kuina leaving behind her dream of becoming the world's greatest swordsman.
