Mel and Kim were a British pop duo, consisting of sisters Melanie and Kim Appleby. They achieved success between 1986 and 1990, with four UK top ten hits, including the number one "Respectable" in March 1987. In mid-1989, Kim revealed that she knew Mels illness was terminal. On 18 January 1990, Mel died suddenly of pneumonia after contracting a cold; her immune system weakened by chemotherapy. After Mel's death, Kim withdrew from publicity and took some time off to grieve. She later pursued a solo career, releasing her debut album in 1990. In 2005, Kim released a single called "High" and in 2010, she appeared on the reality TV show "Come Dine with Me".
