Michael Jacksons skin changed dramatically in the mid-1980s, becoming much lighter in tone. Jackson was diagnosed with the skin disorder vitiligo, which results in white patches on the skin and sensitivity to sunlight. Vitiligo causes depigmentation of parts of the skin, which can result in a patchy appearance. According to his dermatologist, Arnold Klein, Jackson had vitiligo as early as 1983. However, there are conspiracy theories that Jackson bleached his skin using Benoquin cream and other medical cocktails in his quest to look like a white person. Dr. Christopher Rogers, the man who conducted Michael Jackson’s autopsy, confirmed that Jackson indeed suffered from vitiligo, most noticeably with patches around his face, chest, abdomen, and arms. According to dermatologist Dr. Hanish Babu, Jackson did bleach his skin, which is sometimes a treatment used for those with vitiligo. However, Jackson and his close family members have never confirmed this. The plastic surgery done on Michael’s face did not have an impact on his skin color.
