Michael Klim, a Polish-born Australian swimmer, Olympic gold medallist, world champion, and former world record-holder, was diagnosed with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) in 2020. CIDP is a rare autoimmune disorder that affects the nerves and can cause muscle weakness, numbness, and tingling in the arms and legs. Klims health began to rapidly decline in July 2022, and he revealed that he could not walk unassisted due to the incurable disease. The first signs that something was wrong came in 2019 after Klim had surgery on an ankle that had been problematic for almost 20 years. After his second retirement from swimming, Klim became the founder and CEO of a skin care company named "Milk and Co".
