Michigan recently fired its head football coach, Sherrone Moore, and he was later detained by police the same day.
Firing from Michigan
The University of Michigan terminated Sherrone Moore “for cause” after an internal investigation concluded he had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, which the school said violated university policy. Athletic director Warde Manuel emphasized that the program has a zero‑tolerance approach to this kind of conduct and made the firing effective immediately.
Police detention
Later that day, Moore was located and detained by Saline, Michigan police and then turned over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for investigation into potential charges. Authorities have not yet publicly detailed the specific allegations under investigation, only confirming that he is being investigated and that no formal charges had been announced at the time of those reports.
Current Michigan situation
With Moore out, associate head coach Biff Poggi has been named interim head coach for Michigan’s upcoming bowl game. Michigan finished the regular season 9–3 and is scheduled to play Texas in the Citrus Bowl while the school begins a search for a permanent replacement.
