Natalee Holloway, an 18-year-old American, disappeared on May 30, 2005, during a high school graduation trip to Aruba. Her remains have never been found, and she was legally declared dead in 2012. Joran van der Sloot, a Dutch citizen and the prime suspect in her disappearance, recently admitted to killing her in a confession that was publicly revealed on October 18, 2023. He confessed to bludgeoning Natalee Holloway to death on a beach and dragging her body out to sea. This confession came as part of a plea deal in an extortion case stemming from her disappearance. Van der Sloot has been serving a 28-year prison sentence in Peru for the murder of another woman, and he was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the United States for the extortion case, which will run concurrently with his prison sentence in Peru
