Tammy Faye Bakker was an American evangelist, singer, author, talk show host, and television personality. She gained notice for her work with The PTL Club, a televangelist program she co-founded with her husband Jim Bakker in 1974. Tammy Faye Bakker divorced Jim Bakker in 1992 while he was serving a prison sentence for fraud and conspiracy. She married Roe Messner, a business associate of her first husband who was later imprisoned for bankruptcy fraud. Tammy Faye Bakker was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1996, from which she suffered intermittently for over a decade. She died in July 2007 at the age of 65 due to colon cancer that spread to her lungs.
