In poker, a 3-bet is the third bet in a sequence of bets. It refers to the first re-raise before the flop, although it can also refer to the first re-raise after the flop. The blinds are considered the first bet, and the first raise pre-flop is considered the second bet, so the 3-bet is the first re-raise pre-flop. A subsequent raise is referred to as a 4-bet, 5-bet, and so on. There are two types of 3-bets: the value 3-bet and the light 3-bet. The value 3-bet is the traditional 3-bet, where a player believes they have the best hand and wants to get more money into the pot while they have the advantage. The light 3-bet is a semi-bluff, where a player wants to win the hand without showdown.
