A 4-digit card PIN is a Personal Identification Number unique to each ATM card that ensures that the card user or account holder is carrying out the transactions. It is a security code used when carrying out transactions with an ATM card, debit card, or credit card. The PIN is initially provided by the bank, but it can be reset or changed to a new PIN by the card owner. Most debit card PINs are four digits long, and it is recommended to change the PIN every 3-6 months or at least once a year to enhance the security of your bank account as well as ATM and online transactions. To generate a new PIN, one can visit the nearest ATM and insert the card to generate the new PIN. Alternatively, one can receive the ATM PIN through SMS or generate it through internet banking. For credit cards, a PIN is typically a four-digit code used to verify that you’re the owner of a credit card. However, you usually don’t need your PIN when you pay with a credit card in the U.S. Instead, you simply insert or slide your credit card through the reader and sign for the purchase.
