It is a satellite city that was established as a new city in the desert and named after the day that the 1973 Arab-Israeli War broke out). The city hosts many local and foreign students and has one of the largest industrial zones in Egypt, which provides jobs for employees within the city as well as from other parts of Giza). The city has several churches, and the most famous of them is Redeem Christian Church of God (RCCG) ). The date October 6th also refers to the Yom Kippur War, a war between Israel and Egypt and allied Syria which broke out on October 6, 1973.
