In the GCSE grading system, 9 is the highest grade and 1 is the lowest. The new grading system was introduced in 2017 in England, and it replaced the old GCSE grading system that awarded students letter grades from A* to G. The highest grade, 9, is equivalent to a high A* grade. A score of 9, 8, and 7 is equivalent to an A* and A. A grade of 4 is the equivalent of a C grade, known as a standard pass, while a grade of 5 is also a C grade but is known as a strong pass.
