The 50:22 kick is a new rugby law that rewards the attacking team with a line-out if they kick from their own half into the enemy 22 (with at least one bounce in-field) . The concept is fairly straightforward: a team which kicks and bounces the ball out from anywhere within their own 50 meters (i.e. the halfway line) into the opposition's 22-meter area will earn a line-out throw. This law was introduced to encourage attacking play and create more space on the field. The law was on trial in both hemispheres since August 2021 and was made permanent by World Rugby in May 2022.
