A behavior technician is a health professional who works with children and adults with mental and behavioral conditions, particularly those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) . They are trained to use applied behavior analysis (ABA), a science-based therapy, to help individuals with ASD build skills in communication, socialization, self-help, and play. Behavior technicians can work with people of any age, and they assist in delivering behavior-analytic services under the direction of a behavior analyst. The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a paraprofessional certification in behavior analysis that is often required for behavior technician positions. Some of the responsibilities of a behavior technician include assisting patients with day-to-day activities, monitoring their behavior, recording and collecting data on patients progress, and communicating with clients.
