A breadboard, also known as a solderless breadboard or protoboard, is a construction base used to build semi-permanent prototypes of electronic circuits. Breadboards do not require soldering or destruction of tracks and are hence reusable, making them popular with students and in technological education. They allow you to place components and connections on the board to make circuits without soldering, and the holes in the breadboard physically hold onto parts or wires where you put them and electrically connect them inside the board. Breadboards can be used to prototype a variety of electronic systems, from small analog and digital circuits to complete central processing units (CPUs). They are great for hobbyists and tinkerers to set up projects as a standalone device or as a peripheral to an Arduino, Raspberry Pi, LaunchPad, BeagleBone, and many other development boards. Breadboards are not ideal for long-term use like circuits built on perfboard (protoboard) or PCB (printed circuit board), but they also don’t have the soldering (protoboard) or design and manufacturing costs (PCBs).
