A busser, also known as a "busboy" or "busgirl," is an entry-level position in the restaurant industry. Bussers work behind the scenes, ensuring everything is in place for the next guest, so the server team can focus on providing excellent service. Their primary functions include clearing tables, resetting tables, and assisting servers with delivering food to tables, refilling water glasses, and performing other tasks as needed. Bussers also remove all used plates, silverware, and glasses from the table once guests have finished their meal. They spend most of their time on their feet, which can be tiring, especially during long shifts. Bussers must have good lifting techniques and take breaks as needed. Bussing is a physically demanding job, but it can lead to other positions such as host, server, or even line cook.
