A cassette toilet is a type of toilet commonly found in smaller RVs, camper vans, and Class B motorhomes. It is a permanent toilet in an RV with a portable black water tank underneath. The toilet itself is secured in the RV bathroom and functions in much the same manner as a traditional RV toilet. The key difference is that the waste is stored in a removable holding tank, known as a cassette, which can be taken to a dump station for emptying. Compared to traditional RV toilets, cassette toilets have a smaller holding tank capacity and need to be emptied more frequently. Cassette toilets are highly portable and can be driven to the nearest restroom or dump station instead of moving the entire RV. They are a good option for off-grid camping and smaller RVs.
