A clincher bike tire is a type of tire that is commonly used on bicycles. It is the "normal" tire that most people are used to from riding other bikes, ranging from childhood bikes to mountain bikes or comfort bikes. The name "clincher" comes from the fact that these tires "clinch" to the rim of the wheel with a bead of hard rubber. A clincher tire needs an inner tube in order to operate, which holds the air and creates solid pressure against the tire. When air is pumped into a clincher tire, it is actually pumped into the tube, and the tire just sits on top of the tube. Clincher tires have a tough bead of rubber around their edges, which "clinch" to the rim, and they only fit on clincher wheels. Clincher tires are the easiest tires to mount and generally cheaper than their tubular and tubeless counterparts.
