A convergent boundary is an area on Earth where two or more lithospheric plates collide. One plate eventually slides beneath the other, a process known as subduction. This collision can occur between oceanic-oceanic lithosphere, oceanic-continental lithosphere, and continental-continental lithosphere. It can lead to various geological activities such as volcanism, earthquakes, orogenesis, and destruction of the lithosphere. The subduction zone associated with convergent boundaries is often defined by a plane where many earthquakes occur, called the Wadati–Benioff zone
