The Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is a credential offered by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) that demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of safety practice and the skills required for practical implementation. The CSP certification provides safety practitioners a path to greater recognition and career opportunities, offering a certification that demonstrates they have met the requirements for education, work experience, and passing the CSP exam.
To become a CSP, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Have a minimum of a bachelors degree from an accredited university recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
- Have at least four years of professional safety experience where safety is at least 50%, preventative, professional level with breadth and depth of safety duties.
- Pass the CSP exam offered by the BCSP.
- Meet the BCSP's recertification requirements.
The CSP certification is respected and well-known in and out of the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) industry, and many EHS jobs require or recommend that safety professionals have their CSP certification. The CSP credential will give safety professionals a step above the competition that has not received the credential, and it will advance their career by putting them in front of other candidates who are also interviewing for the same EHS position.
