A doping test is a biochemical test that detects the presence of performance-enhancing drugs in an athletes blood or urine. It is one tool that Anti-Doping Organizations (ADOs) use to level the playing field and protect clean sport. Athletes who compete at the national or international level are subject to doping control and can be tested anytime or anywhere by relevant National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADOs), International Federations (IFs), and Major Event Organizations (MEOs) . There are currently three types of anti-doping tests: urine, venous blood, and dried blood spot. Once a sample is collected, it is sent to a WADA accredited laboratory to be analyzed. Testing can have a deterrent effect on those who may be vulnerable to doping decisions, and when people choose to cheat, testing can detect that. Testing is one of the essential components protecting clean sport.
