A graduate assistant coach is a graduate student who works as an assistant coach for their college or university while working on the completion of their postgraduate degree. The main role of a graduate assistant coach is to provide support and assistance to the head coach. Specific duties may include coaching and recruiting student-athletes, athlete skill development, monitoring student academic progress, and making telephone calls to prospects. Graduate assistant coaches are often flexible and willing to do whatever is needed for the good of the program, including doing "dirty work" that leads to bigger roles and more responsibilities. Graduate assistant coaches are typically eligible to serve for two years and may be eligible for a third year.
