A herbivore is an animal that gets its energy from eating plants, and only plants. They are anatomically and physiologically adapted to eating plant material, such as foliage or marine algae, for the main component of their diet. Herbivorous animals typically have mouthparts adapted to rasping or grinding, and wide flat teeth that are adapted to grinding grass, tree bark, and other tough plant material. Many herbivores have special digestive systems that let them digest all kinds of plants, including grasses. They can often have several stomach chambers and a much longer digestive tract. Herbivores can come in many sizes, from tiny insects such as aphids to large, lumbering elephants. Some examples of herbivores include cows, sheep, giraffes, and deer.
