A horned frog is a term used to identify several kinds of frogs with hornlike features. However, the term is also used to refer to the mascot of Texas Christian University (TCU) . The TCU Horned Frog is actually a lizard, specifically the Texas horned lizard, which is also known as the "horned toad" or "horned frog". The nickname comes from their round body, short snout, and pronounced stance that make them look like a frog or toad. In folk-Spanish, they are known as "torito de lo Virgin," which means "little bull who protects the Virgin," because they charge when facing enemies.
