A hybrid caravan, also known as a hybrid camper or expandable travel trailer, is a cross between a caravan and a camper trailer. It has hard, permanent walls like a caravan, but the suspension and towing ability of a camper trailer. The key difference between a hybrid caravan and a traditional caravan is that hybrid caravans have pop-out sections on one or both ends that have the sleeping space (beds) . These pop-outs are manually opened and have fabric/mesh walls. The manner in which the camper pops up or out depends on the model and floor plan. With some hybrids, it’s the top that pops up, while in others, the sides pop out to expand the interior and offer more living and/or sleeping space. Hybrid caravans are unique among the types of RV trailers as they can come with a traditional travel trailer slide-out in addition to the pop-outs. They are a comfortable middle ground between a full-sized caravan and a camper trailer.
