The "Kia Boys" are a group of teenagers who have used a particular hack to steal cars, specifically Kia and Hyundai models manufactured between 2011-2021 and 2015-2021, respectively. They are not an official organization but rather a general collective of teenagers who participate in a social media challenge that involves stealing Kias and Hyundais using a specific method and posting the results on TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube. The method involves breaking a window, prying open the steering column, and using the victims own phone charger to start the car. The Kia Boys are not motivated by money or even to keep the cars; they do it for fun and joyrides. The label "Kia Boys" is a blanket term for any teenager who steals Kias and Hyundais for joyrides. The term may have been spread by the media, but it is also embraced by the kids stealing Kias. The Kia Boys have caused significant damage, leading to recalls and software updates from Kia and Hyundai, and a $200M settlement.
