A kiosk is a small, temporary, stand-alone booth used in high-traffic areas for marketing purposes. Historically, a kiosk was a small garden pavilion open on some or all sides common in Persia, the Indian subcontinent, and in the Ottoman Empire from the 13th century onward. Kiosks are generally small booths set up in high-traffic areas, and they may be manned by individuals who sell a product or service, or they may be electronic, providing consumers with a self-service-style experience. Some kiosks are designed to improve customer experience by providing information or offering self-service options, such as restaurant ordering kiosks, internet kiosks, and photo kiosks. Kiosks can also be used to automate customer orders of goods and services, such as ticketing booths, airport check-in terminals, or ordering kiosks at quick-service restaurants. There are different types of kiosks, including self-service kiosks, information kiosks, wayfinding kiosks, and temperature kiosks. The kiosk industry is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 7.1% from 2022 to 2030, and manufacturers are pushing the technology to fulfill a variety of services.
