A knockdown in boxing is when a boxer is hit hard enough that they fall to the floor and any part of their body other than the soles of their feet touches the ring canvas. The referee will then begin counting to ten, giving the fighter the chance to get back up and continue the fight. If the fighter is unable to get back up before the count of ten, the fight is over and the opponent is declared the winner by knockout. It is important to note that a knockdown does not automatically mean that the fighter who scored the knockdown won the round.
