A pocket door is a type of sliding door that disappears into a compartment in the adjacent wall when fully open. It is hung from the top and slides along a track that is mounted inside the wall, which saves floor and wall space. Pocket doors are used for architectural effect or when there is no room for the swing of a hinged door. They are especially handy in small spaces such as Jack-and-Jill bathrooms, closets, laundry or utility rooms, or home offices. Pocket doors are slower and more cumbersome than swinging doors, but they save space and provide a cleaner visual aesthetic. However, they can be difficult to repair when something goes wrong with the hardware.
