A premises licence is a permanent license granted by the local authority in the UK, which authorizes the holder to carry out a combination of licensable activities, including the sale of alcohol, regulated entertainment, and late-night refreshment, at a specific location. The premises license is valid for the life of the business supplying alcohol and/or regulated entertainment. The Licensing Act 2003 sets out the objectives of the premises license, which include the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, the prevention of public nuisance, and the protection of children from harm. The premises license holder must ensure that all staff members engaged in selling alcohol at the premises receive induction training. The premises license holder must also appoint a designated premises supervisor (DPS) who must have a personal license to sell alcohol. The premises license holder must display the license summary at the premises where it can be easily seen, and the other pages of the license should be kept safely at the premises.
