An RBI, or run batted in, is a statistic in baseball and softball that credits a batter for making a play that allows a run to be scored. A player is credited with an RBI in most cases where the result of their plate appearance is a run being scored, such as a run-scoring hit, bases-loaded walk, or hit by pitch. However, a player does not receive an RBI when the run scores as a result of an error or ground into a double play
