A scalene triangle is a type of triangle in which all three sides are of different lengths and all three angles are of different measures. It is a three-sided polygon that consists of no equal sides and no equal angles. The sum of all the interior angles of a scalene triangle is always equal to 180 degrees, which satisfies the angle sum property of a triangle. Some of the important properties of a scalene triangle are:
- It has no equal sides.
- It has no equal angles.
- It has no line of symmetry.
- It has no point symmetry.
- The angles inside this triangle can be an acute, obtuse, or right angle.
Scalene triangles can be classified into three categories based on their interior angles:
- Acute-angled scalene triangle: In this type of triangle, each angle of the triangle is less than 90 degrees. In simple words, all angles are acute angles.
- Obtuse-angled scalene triangle: In this type of triangle, there is one obtuse angle (between 90° and 180°) and the remaining two angles are acute.
- Right-angled scalene triangle: In this type of triangle, one angle is a right angle (90 degrees) and the other two angles are acute.
Scalene triangles do not have any lines of symmetry because they do not have any equal sides or angles.
