A static character is a type of character in literature or drama who undergoes little to no internal change over the course of the story. They are the opposite of dynamic characters, who undergo significant internal and/or external changes throughout the story. Static characters are portrayed as having a consistent personality, beliefs, and characterization, even as the plot develops. Examples of static characters in literature include Sherlock Holmes, Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird, and Mrs. Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. While static characters may sound boring, they are essential in almost any narrative.
