The Storm Shadow missile is a long-range, air-launched cruise missile developed since 1994 by Matra and British Aerospace, and now manufactured by MBDA. It is a British-French low-observable, long-range missile that is known as SCALP-EG in France. The missile is designed to accurately target high-value fixed assets in extreme conditions and is capable of striking targets at much longer ranges than had previously been possible. The missile is typically launched from the air and has a firing range in excess of 250km, or 155 miles. The missile is highly precise and has a range of over 155 miles, three times that of the high Mars. The missile is designed to evade detection despite flying low after being launched. The missile is combat-proven and has been put into operations with the Royal Air Force and the French Air Force in 2003 and was used in the Gulf, Iraq, and Libya. The missile is now in service with six nations, including the UK, France, Italy, Greece, and the UAE.
