A Unified Business Identifier (UBI) number is a unique nine-digit number that is used across several state agencies in Washington State to identify a registered business. It is sometimes called a tax registration number, a business registration number, or a business license number. The UBI number is issued to individuals and companies doing business in the State of Washington. It is required for various purposes such as tax filings and reporting. The UBI number is assigned to a business when the owner registers with the Department of Revenue, Department of Employment Security, Department of Labor and Industries, or the Secretary of State. If a business is not a type required to be registered with the Secretary of State, the UBI number will be provided when the owner completes a Master Business Application with the Department of Revenue.
