The Volume, also known as The StageCraft, is a virtual production visual effects technology composed of a video wall designed by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) . It is a circular studio comprised of high-definition LED panels all around, which display computer-generated imagery backdrops. The Volume is a soundstage in which StageCraft is implemented. The technology allows for real-time manipulation of the entire CGI background, which can be instantly realigned based on moving camera positions. The Volume is used to create a seamless immersive environment for actors to perform in, and it is becoming more widely available, with more studios building their own immersive soundstages. The term "volume stage" is used for a larger, more comprehensive version of The Volume.
