Acetate fabric, also known as cellulose acetate, is a type of semi-synthetic fabric created by combining natural fibers and synthetic fibers. It is made from wood pulp-based cellulose filaments that are spun into threads and then treated with multiple acids such as acetic acid, acetic anhydride, and sulfuric acid. Acetate fabric is a member of the rayon family, along with viscose, modal, and lyocell. It is a lightweight material with a gentle, luxurious feel and a silk-like quality, making it soft against the skin and comfortable to wear. Acetate fabric is often used to make knitwear, evening dresses, wedding attires, formal shirts, suits, blouses, coats, sweaters, sportswear, hats, and undergarments, as well as umbrellas, furniture, upholstery, drapes, curtains, carpets, and home decor. Some advantages of acetate fabric include its glossy appearance, resistance to mold and mildew, and availability in different brightness and colors. However, it is a delicate material that requires special care when washing and is not as durable as other fabrics.
