AdBlue is a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) that is used to reduce harmful emissions from diesel engines. AdBlue is made of a colorless mixture of high-purity urea (32.5%) and deionized water (67.5%), as set out in the ISO 22242 standard. Urea contains ammonia, which is the active ingredient in AdBlue that reacts with NOx and neutralizes it before it enters the atmosphere. AdBlue is not a fuel additive as it’s added to the exhaust gas after combustion has taken place. AdBlue is non-toxic, non-flammable, and odorless. It is important to use AdBlue in diesel engines that are fitted with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to meet Euro 6 emissions regulations.
