The terms ADD and ADHD are often used interchangeably, but they refer to the same condition. ADD, or attention deficit disorder, is an outdated term for the disorder now called ADHD, which stands for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The latest version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) divides ADHD into three presentations: predominantly inattentive presentation, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive presentation, and combined presentation, which includes both inattentive and hyperactive- impulsive symptoms
. Therefore, ADD is now considered a part of the ADHD diagnosis, specifically referring to the predominantly inattentive presentation of the disorder.
