Aerodynamics is the study of the motion of air, particularly when affected by a solid object, such as an airplane wing. It is a branch of fluid dynamics and gas dynamics, and is an important domain of study in aeronautics. The rules of aerodynamics explain how an airplane is able to fly, and anything that moves through air is affected by aerodynamics. The four forces of flight are lift, weight, thrust, and drag, and these forces make an object move up and down, and faster or slower. The shape of an airplanes wings is what makes it able to fly, as the curved shape of the wings makes air flow over the top faster than under the bottom, creating less air pressure on top of the wing and making the wing, and the airplane its attached to, move up. Aerodynamics is also important in other areas, such as the design of cars, high-speed trains, and ships, as well as the construction of structures such as bridges and tall buildings to assess their wind resistance.
